How can something so small be so terrible?

The Nissan Micra

The super mind Micra was produced in Japan in 1982 under the name Nissan March. This was originally designed to replace the Nissan Cherry.

The ugliest little car in the world

Sometimes cars are strictly about function. Getting from point A to point B and back again. Nothing more and nothing less. The Nissan Micra is that kind of car, designed for city streets it is a tiny little thing.

Dimensions

  • Wheelbase 92.9 in
  • Length 145.5 in
  • Width 62.4 in
  • Height 56.3 in

A grocery car with no room

The 3 to 5 door hatch back was designed for city streets and domestic routines. This small little car should be just enough to carry your groceries home from the nearest supermarket. Unfortunately, this mini car also has a mini interior leaving  little room in the hatch, or the backseat. The third generation Micra also became available in a 2 door coupe convertible model, which was even uglier than the rest.

How many models can one car have?

  • March 12S (2010-2012)

  • March 12X 30th Happiness (2012)

Before the safety specification of newer models this car was rated as a dangerous vehicle by an insurance company. They were very clear in saying that this was not a car you wanted to be in during a car crash. Chance of survival during impact in a model produced between 1988 and 1995 was slim. It was because of this that the EuroNCAP stepped in. The Nissan Micra  standard equipment LHD, 5-door hatchback, registered in 2010 and was tested by the EuroNCAP they scored it accordingly:

  • Overall
  • Adult Occupant 84%, 30 points.
  • Child Occupant 79%, 39 points.
  • Pedestrian 58%, 21 points.
  • Safety Assist 57%, 4 points.

A Functional Car, Mostly Anyway

With high safety standards, and simple functionality; not to mention a list of models a mile long; the Nissan Micra is a car that gives you options. As cities are overcrowding and parking is becoming more and more scarce this mini compact car provides at least an easy way to get around. It is not the most luxurious of cars, even in the newer models. Often made of plastic and imitation suede there is a kind of “cheapness” to the feel of the car. As the car developed through the years the look did get better and the consumer ratings increased.  There isn’t much room, so don’t plan to take your family with you to the shops. Yet if you are just driving downtown to a football game you might be able to fit 2 of your buddies in the car with you, though not comfortably.
